How to Make the Day your Friend – Part 3

If you haven’t already, check out Part 1 and Part 2 of “How to Make the Day Your Friend.”

It’s after 5pm and work time is over.  Time to enjoy our evening!

Kidney time:  5-7pm

Are you tired, feeling worn out at the end of the day?  If you can, take a couple of minutes to reflect on what you spent your energy on today.  What felt good and what needs to change for the better?

Then eat a healthy dinner.  I know that it’s considered trendy to eat between 7-9, but that’s late for your system and will make it harder for your liver to process your day as it’s spending all of its energy processing your food and drink.  Go easy on your digestive system in the evening!  It’s been working for you all day long-digesting food, drink, thoughts, emotions and everything else.

Pericardium 7-9pm

Ah, socialization time!  Whether it’s getting together with friends (games night anyone?) or being with your family (in person or on Zoom), it’s time to enjoy the evening.  Get some good movement in while you’re at it.  Depending on the season, you can take a nice walk, go for a bike ride, play some dance video games or yard games to get your movement in.  The point is to relax and enjoy some socialization and movement time!

Triple Warmer (Triple Heater):  9-11pm

No more eating for tonight.  I know you may like a late-night snack but your body doesn’t.  It’s time to wind down, quiet down and get yourself ready for bed.  What do you like to do to release your day?  How about a quick meditation, deep breathing practice or tapping with a favorite modality?  Got any good books to read?

Come away from the computers and tv’s about an hour before you want to go to sleep so your body can calm down from all those busy pixels.  You can also visualize yourself ‘taking off’ or ‘shaking off’ the day’s activities/stresses like you would if you were shaking water off your body or changing into your pajamas.

There’s a lot of the old saying about never going to bed angry.  The bed is a sacred space and you want to clear out your day before you get in.  If you’ve had an argument with your partner or anyone else, leave it at the door and resolve it tomorrow.  You’ll get much more rest tonight and be calmer tomorrow so you can handle it better.

Gall Bladder:  11pm-1am

Time to sleep and let your cells heal and regenerate.  Make sure your bed is comfy and your room is dark and cool so you can sleep your best.  This is a great time to practice your deep breathing as it relaxes you into a good sleep.  Your body is starting to process your day and appreciates your help in providing a nice, relaxing environment in which it can do its best work.

Liver: 3-5am

Processing time for detoxing!  If you wake up during this time, your liver is in overwhelm and having a hard time.  Make sure you are eating healthy during the day, and taking the best care of your body-mind.  Constant waking during this time is a good clue that you could use an energy balancing session, so get scheduled!

And one last tip for the night-take a glass of water to bed with you, so you can drink it first thing in the morning BEFORE that cup of coffee.  Your body has been working all night long, so you’ll need to replenish it before adding any caffeine.  Happy sleeping!
